Drag and drop

What's New?

Rearrange Your Pages in Seconds With the New Drag and Drop Feature

Drag and drop in ShortPoint Live Mode

Ever spent way too long reorganizing a page, cutting an element from one spot just to paste it somewhere else? That workflow is officially a thing of the past.

Reordering content in Live Mode has always meant a multi-step detour: open the element's other actions menu, select cut, find your new spot, then paste. It works, but it breaks your flow every time you want to try a different layout. Plus, the more elements on a page, the more those extra clicks add up. It's the kind of friction that turns "quick tweak" into a longer task than it needs to be.

With the most recent release, ShortPoint Designers editing modern SharePoint pages in Live Mode can now grab any element, whether inside a Section, Row, Column, or container like a Panel or Background, and drag it exactly where they want it. No menus, no cut-and-paste, just click, drag, and drop. The page updates visually in real time, so you see your new layout as you build it.

A few details that make it worth trying on your next intranet project:

  • It scrolls with you. Dragging an element toward the top or bottom of the page? The page scrolls automatically so you never lose your place.
  • It works inside containers, too. Long or scrollable elements like Panels auto-scroll as you drag near their edges, so reordering content inside them is just as smooth.
  • It's built for Live Mode. Because it works directly where you're already designing, there's no context switch. Just faster, more intuitive edits.

To try it, update to the latest ShortPoint SPFx version and open any page in Live Mode.

Visibility

Set Design Element Visibility Without Ever Leaving Live Mode

Visibility settings in ShortPoint Live Mode

Setting up who can see a Design Element has always required you to leave Live Mode so you can do it in Grid Mode. The last update gave you a shortcut to get there faster, a single click from Live Mode, but that click still dropped you into Grid Mode to actually set the rules. It was progress, just not the whole fix.

That step is gone now. With ShortPoint SPFx version 9.3.1.0 or later, visibility settings live directly inside the Visibility tab of the Design Element's settings window in Live Mode. No popup, no detour to Grid Mode. You configure who sees an element right where you're already working.

A few things that make this update worth exploring:

  • One less click, every time. Open the Design Element's settings, switch to the Visibility tab, and adjust the rules. Done without ever leaving Live Mode.
  • Visual confirmation built in. Elements with visibility rules applied now show a small eye icon on their label in the editor. So you can spot at a glance which ones have restrictions set.
  • Preview as a specific person or group. New this release: you can now preview exactly how the page will look to a chosen person or group before you publish, alongside the existing device-specific preview options.

All it takes is ShortPoint SPFx version 9.3.1.0 or later. Once you're updated, visibility settings are ready and waiting inside every Design Element's settings in Live Mode.

If you want to see how it all comes together, head over to our Knowledge Base and check out the full Introducing the New User Experience for ShortPoint Visibility article. It gives you a preview of the updated experience with an interactive tutorial.

Why Your AI Designer Prompt Didn't Change Anything (And How to Fix It)

Writing effective prompts in ShortPoint AI Designer

Nine times out of ten, "AI Designer said it's finished, but nothing changed" isn't a bug; it's the prompt. AI Designer can only act on what you actually tell it, and a vague ask often produces a result so close to the original that it looks like nothing happened. Here's how to fix that with three features working together.

Before you start: Make sure you have the following in place before trying any of these tips.

  • You need the latest version of ShortPoint SPFx installed.
  • You need to be a ShortPoint Designer with a Pro or Enterprise license.
  • AI Designer must be enabled in the ShortPoint Admin page, with AI credits available.

How to fix it: These three steps work together. Use them in order, and you'll rarely see a "finished, but nothing changed" result again.

1. Be specific about what to change, not just that you want a change. AI Designer has no idea what "make it better" means. Tell it exactly what element, what property, and what outcome you want.

"Change the Welcome section's background to our brand blue and make the heading larger."

Vague requests like "improve this page" or "fix the design" often come back looking nearly identical, because there's nothing concrete for the AI to act on.

For the full playbook on getting AI Designer to do exactly what you ask, check out How to Write Effective AI Prompts for ShortPoint AI Designer ; it includes a full prompt template you can copy.

2. Keep the conversation going instead of starting over. AI Designer remembers your session. You don't need one perfect prompt. If the first result isn't quite right, just say what's still missing.

"That's close, but move the quick links section above the timeline."

Each follow-up builds on the last, so you can keep refining until the page actually looks the way you want. No need to rewrite the whole prompt from scratch.

3. Use Version History if a change goes the wrong way. If a follow-up prompt takes the design somewhere you didn't want, you don't have to manually undo it or start the whole page over. Version History lets you step back to any earlier point in the conversation and pick up from there.

Curious how far back you can go? Check out How to Revert to Previous Prompt Versions in ShortPoint AI Designer .

The result: A specific ask, a quick follow-up, and the freedom to roll back if needed. Instead of a "finished" message and a page that looks untouched.

💡 Pro tip: Treat every AI Designer session as a conversation, not a one-shot request. The combination of specific prompts, iteration, and a safety net in Version History means you can experiment freely without ever losing a version you liked.

The next time AI Designer tells you it's finished, but your page still looks the same, you'll know exactly what to check. A clearer ask, one more follow-up, or a quick step back in Version History is usually all it takes to get from "nothing changed" to exactly what you had in mind.
